UNLESS YOU PLAN on uniting the armies of the north and embarking on a blood-drenched march south, this may be the only chance you get to own a seaside castle in the near future.
The latest Allsop auction features a 1,551 sq. m stone residence complete with enough rooftop lookout space to spot any foreign invaders.
Ardfry House is built on a small inlet looking out out at Galway Bay just outside the town of Oranmore.
The house looks like it’s been through some tough battles itself though. It’s in need of extensive restoration work and planning permission would be required, although a catalogue accompanying the sale says it has previously been granted.
Despite this, it comes with price reserve of between €1.8 – €2 million which also includes surrounding land totaling 11.65 hectares.
Also located on the picturesque inlet are the remains of a 9th century moated castle. There’s even a walled orchard if you feel like taking a break from all the brick-work you’ll be doing.
The north of the property looks over at Galway Bay Golf Resort and the total amount of coastline surrounding the site is 747 metres.
Auction
The site will be auctioned off next week along with 330 other lots over two days of both commercial and residential sales.
The residential auction features 218 properties with combined reserve prices in the region of €39 million and the commercial auction has 113 properties at a combined reserve of almost €33 million.
The most expensive lot expected to sell is a development of 46 houses in Dingle that are expected to go for a €3.5 million.
