BANK OF IRELAND has apologised for sending some of its customers erroneous letters regarding their overdraft. A number of letters were sent out by BOI to overdrawn customers without decimal places, substantially increasing the amount concerned.
BOI apologised for the errors and said this was an isolated incident affecting certain customers. Correct letters, and apologies, will be now sent to the affected customers.
The bank is obliged to write to customers who have been overdrawn for over 30 days under the new Consumer Credit Regulations.
Last week, the bank said it was refunding €3 million to ATM customers who forgot to take the money from the machines after requesting a withdrawal.
The money was not automatically refunded to user’s accounts due to a flaw in the bank’s computer system.
