40 Irish bankers earned at least €1 million in 2013

Two bankers were earning €2 million or more.

NEWLY RELEASED FIGURES show 40 Irish bankers earned at least €1 million in 2013.

The figures were revealed in a report by the European Banking Authority and indicate bank employees in Ireland are ahead of the EU average that year.

This report gives details of high-earning bankers, broken down by sector.

As the tables below show there were 38 Irish bank staff earning €1 million or more in 2013 and another two who were earning €2 million or more.

Five people in the retail banking sector were on salaries of at least €1 million. However the sector with the highest number of high-earners was investment banking, with 12 people on at least €1 million.

In the UK, more bankers took home  €1 million salaries than the rest of the EU combined. More than 2,000 high-earners in the EU were based in the UK.

On a European level, the number of high earners slightly decreased since 2012 from 3,540 to 3, 178.
