BANK OF IRELAND say all customer accounts should be back to normal this morning, after some people saw duplicate debits taken from their balance.
The payments relate to transactions carried out using Visa debit cards last Friday — some customers had the amount taken out of their account twice.
The amounts varied from just a few euro to much larger sums.
A spokesperson for the bank said all errors had been rectified overnight, and that anyone affected should see their balance restored to normal this morning.
“We apologise sincerely,” the spokesperson said.
Any customers who who would have incurred extra fees or whose accounts inadvertently went into overdraft temporarily as a result of the glitch won’t be hit with penalty charges as a result of the problem.
