B2B service producer prices up 3.4% in Q1 2014

CSO says this index should not be considered indicative of more general price trends in the economy.

Service prices from business-to-business providers rose 3.4% in the first quarter of 2014 compared with the same period of last year, according to new data from the CSO.

The experimental Services Producer Price Index monitors services provided to business customers only, not consumers, and the CSO says these prices should not be considered indicative of more general price trends across the economy.

Over the year between Q1 2013 and 2014, the most notable price changes by sector were:

  • Air transport +11.9%
  • Sea and coastal transport +6.6%
  • Computer programming and consultancy +3.7%
  • Advertising, media representation and market research +3.3%
  • Warehousing, storage and cargo handling -5.8%

The biggest quarterly price changes were recorded for:

  • Air transport (+9.9%)
  • Employment and HR activities (+5.1%)
  • Architecture, engineering and technical testing (+2.7%)
  • Sea and coastal transport (-6.5%)
