Apple said to integrate Shazam's song-recognition software into iOS update

The company is partnering with Shazam, whose music-recognition software will be built into Apple’s upcoming mobile software update iOS 8.

APPLE IS PLANNING on partnering with Shazam to bring song identification software to its upcoming mobile software update iOS 8.

Bloomberg reports that the feature will be integrated into iOS the same way Twitter’s service is currently incorporated. This means iOS users won’t have to download a separate app.

One of the ways it can be used will be through Siri, where an iPhone user can ask it “what song is playing” to find out its details.

There are also plans that Apple is planning to roll out iTunes Radio outside the US later this year, and it’s rumoured the company is considering releasing a subscription-music service that would compete with the likes of Spotify and Rdio.

Incorporating music-recognition into an mobile OS isn’t exactly new. Windows Phone users have had a music-recognition service built into Bing since WP 7.5 (Mango), while Android added a similar feature onto Google Now for US users back in March.

Apple is set to preview iOS 8 at its annual developer conference that kicks off on 2nd June in San Francisco.

At least this shows that they’ve learned from the Maps debacle by partnering with the company who pioneered and perfected this technology, rather than just building a half-assed version themselves!

Well they had originally partnered with Google for Google Maps, then they had a falling-out. There’s nothing to suggest the exact same thing won’t happen with Shazam

If a music recognition feature is something they use as a strong point for an upcoming update,I really don’t want to hear the rest – possibly going to be just as irrelevant…
