Apple's developer site was hacked

Apple says an intruder attempted to secure the personal information of some of the registered developers from the site.

APPLE SAYS THAT its website for developers has been hacked and some private information may have been stolen.

The site went offline on Thursday and Apple said it has been “working around the clock” to restore the site.  The developer website provides information and downloads for people who write software and create apps for Apple’s operating systems.

Developers had to wait three days to find out what had happened to the site. In a placeholder statement before it explained what happened, Apple had said that the site was down for maintenance.

In a  mail sent to developers, Apple said that an intruder attempted to secure personal information of some of the registered developers from the site.

Although sensitive information was encrypted, Apple said “we have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers’ names, mailing addresses, and/or email addresses may have been accessed.”

“In the spirit of transparency, we want to inform you of the issue,” Apple said.
