There has been a drop of over 16% in the number of dwellings to get planning permission.

PLANNING PERMISSION WAS granted for 114 apartment units in the second quarter of this year compared with 430 units for the same period last year.

In just one year, the number of planning permissions granted for apartments has dropped by 73.5%.

Looking back at previous yearly figures, apartment living was popular, with over 5,092 apartment units being granted planning permission for the same period in 2009.

This year’s figure is lower that the previous, but not compared to the second quarter of 2012, where 1,166 houses were granted permission – the lowest in the five year period from 2009-2014.

The highest number of houses to get planning permission in the second quarter over the five year period was in 2009, when 7,739 got permission.
