Angela Merkel
Merkel is the current Chancellor of Germany, she took office in November of 2005 and is the first woman to hold this position. She was first elected to the German Parliament, Bundestag, in the first general election following the reunification of Germany. Merkel is the chairperson of the Christian Democratic Union. In 2007 she was the President of the European Council and chaired the G8 summit.
