AIRBNB, THE HOSPITALITY site that lets people book and rent out accommodation, is to open its European headquarters in Dublin.
The news follows some speculation in July that it was going to centralise some of its services in a European hub. The company is valued at $2.5 billion.
The company made the announcement on its blog today, with its founder and CEO Brian Chesky saying that Airbnb has selected “this vibrant, historic city as our European home”.
Europe
Europe is Airnbnb’s largest market, and it has offices in seven cities in the region, but it wants a “regional home to bring our European teams and community together”.
Chesky said that the company will create its Hospitality Innovation Lab in Dublin, where it plans to “innovate on the customer experience”.
Dublin will also become the home for Airbnb’s European customer experience team, the team “that ensures that your trip goes delightfully smooth, and your hosting is successful”.
Chesky said that Dublin was chosen as the Irish capital “has hospitality in its DNA” and is known for its warm welcome.
But he also added that it is an emerging technology epicentre in Europe, with nearly every language represented.
Airbnb’s Dublin office is currently located on Lansdowne Road in Dublin 4. It is currently recruiting for positions in Dublin, including in the human resources, customer service and finance/accounting areas.
He also tells Airbnb users that the Dublin office will be “a little different”, as it would be a home for its community, as well as the Airbnb team.
“So if you are one of the next hundred thousand guests to visit Dublin on Airbnb, or one of our friendly new hosts, we would love to welcome you,” said Chesky.
Let’s hope they have a rather large office planned to accommodate the throngs of visitors.

I don’t know what bad experiences you have had in Dublin so for that I am sorry. I do think Irish people are very nice and welcoming. I’ve been here for 7 years now.
I was born here, my parents were born here and I still get called *insert African country* everyday. I would say Dubliners are polite but not particularly welcoming.

@matt- do you mean effective tax rate? Their corpo rate is 25%.
Nominally the Dutch have a lower rate.
Only Ireland can sprinkle that accountancy fairydust to make the effective rate 0%

This is of course good news. But how come we never hear about Irish companies starting up ??? Isn’t it something to be more proud of to think that there also Irish people out there doing it rather than hearing about already established foreign companies coming here for the tidy tax regime ??
That’s true, I would also like to hear more about Irish companies. The problem is most start-ups tend to be quite small and a lot don’t last very long. A big multinational can be more stable and can bring a large amount of jobs which means more media interest.

Theyll create probably 250 jobs of which 10 will go to irish people as the rest will require dutch/french/arabic/russian , IT companies coming here should not get headlines about job creation when most of the jobs they create cant be filled by irish people

Are these foreign workers being flown home every night or will they be living in and paying tax in Ireland. So whose fault is it that Irish people can mostly just speak English ?
Ireland has over 80,000 non Irish people on the dole. Speaking many languages. If some of these can get a job with this company it is one less on the dole one more paying tax. Maybe you should learn a language
