Airbnb

Is Airbnb planning to set up shop in Ireland?

The company has decided to change its international strategy and is looking at establishing a European hub.

ONLINE HOUSE AND apartment sharing service Airbnb may be planning to set up an office in Ireland, as part of a shift in its strategy abroad.

The Wall Street Journal reports today that the company is assigning large numbers of employees to new positions and hoping to centralise some of its services in a European hub.

The report suggests the location of choice for this hub could be Dublin and will require a move for some of the company’s 600 employees.

The company is valued at $2.5 billion and recently raised $150 million. Airbnb has a lot of competition outside of the US, mostly in Europe and Asia which previously forced it to ramp up its international operations. However instead of an international expansion, it now appears that the company is seeking to run its global operation from one European office.

Several employees have decided to leave the company as a result of the shakeup, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Today Airbnb is in more than 30,000 cities and 192 countries.
