Talks continue over Aer Lingus pension dispute

SIPTU said its members will not accept any proposals that require them to engage in productivity negotiations as a condition of protecting their pension entitlements.

SIPTU HELD AN emergency meeting with its Aer Lingus committee this morning to discuss the ICTU/IBEC five-point plan to resume talks on the Aer Lingus/DAA pension crisis.

Following the meeting, SIPTU sector organiser Dermot O’Loughlin commented:

The committee unanimously welcomes all initiatives aimed at resolving this difficult and complex dispute. We note that Aer Lingus has linked the resolution of the pension crisis to productivity/stabilisation measures.

However, he added:

Our members will not accept any proposals that require them to engage in productivity negotiations as a condition of protecting their pension entitlements.

The SIPTU Aer Lingus Council of Representatives will meet on Monday, 13 November, in the Dublin Airport Offices to discuss and decide on the recommendation of the pension committee.

Unions served Aer Lingus notice of industrial action last week. The proposed industrial action is due to take place on Monday 19 November.
