Aer Lingus passenger numbers fall slightly, but sees 12% jump in long-haul

Figures release today show that 733,000 passengers flew with the airline last month.

THE TOTAL NUMBER of passengers flying with Aer Lingus remained almost unchanged last month compared to the year previous, falling 0.1 per cent.

Figures released today show that 733,000 passengers flew with the airline’s regional and mainline services last month.

However, regional services saw a rise of 2.4 per cent, while another improvement seen was in the number of seats filled per flight on all services, rising 3.1 per cent.

The airline experienced a jump in the number of passengers on long-haul flights of almost 12 per cent, although short haul fell by 2.1 per cent.

This is in line with the airline’s predictions last month, that little  would change in short haul passenger numbers due to “heavily discounted fare offerings across Europe”.

Total year-to-date figures show a 10 per cent rise in regional passenger numbers, although a fall of 0.7 overall.
