Aer Lingus passenger numbers continue to increase, up 7%

There was also a 22.3% increase in the number of transatlantic passengers, which stood at 148,000.

AER LINGUS HAS reported a 7% increase in the number of passenger carried last month, compared to the same time last year.

Including Aer Lingus Regional traffic, the airline carried 1.205 million passengers in August, up from 1.126 million last year.

There was also a 22.3% increase in the number of transatlantic passengers, which stood at 148,000.

Regional services alone posted a 19% increase in passenger numbers, up 23,000 to 144,000.

The total number of passengers carried by the airline this year to date has also continued to increase compared to 2013, up 4.4%, after another increase of 3.9% last month.

The airline recently released its half-year report showing total revenues up 6% to €697.2m. CEO Christoph Mueller said that the airline expects full year 2014 operating profit to at least be in line with 2013 levels.

Aer Lingus announced last month that it will cancel its Cork to Brussels service later this year.
