84 per cent of all adults listen to radio on a daily basis

The latest JNLR figures have also shown that 54 per cent of people listen to regional radio.

THE LATEST JNLR figures have shown that 84 per cent of all adults listen to radio on a daily basis.

The latest figures – which cover the 12-month period from April 2012 to March of this year – also show that 80 per cent of those aged between 15-34 tune in on a daily basis.

Of all the minutes of radio listened to, national radio accounts for 46 per cent of the total, with regional radio accounting for 54 per cent.

Average weekday  listenership - aged 15-24

Both RTÉ 2FM and Today FM recorded the largest individual national listenership for those aged between 15-24, at nine per cent each, while 13 per cent of this grouping listened to either RTÉ Radio One, RTÉ 2FM or RTÉ Lyric FM.

Regionally, Spin South West had the largest average weekly listenership at 68 per cent.

Average weekday listenership - aged 15-34

Today FM recorded the largest individual national listenership for those aged between 15-34, at 16 per cent, while 19 per cent of this grouping listened to any RTÉ radio station.

Regionally, Spin South West had the largest average weekly listenership at 49 per cent.

Average weekday listenership - aged 35+

RTÉ Radio One recorded the largest individual national listenership for those aged 35+, at 34 per cent, while 43 per cent of this grouping listened to any RTÉ radio station.

Regionally, Cork’s 96FM/C103 had the largest average weekly listenership at 56 per cent.

Share of listening (7am – 7pm) – aged 15+

The largest percentage increase came in the south-east, where those listening to RTÉ Radio One increased by two per cent to 19.8 per cent.

Today FM recorded the largest share of listeners nationally, at 8.5 per cent, while 11.2 per cent of this grouping listened to any RTÉ radio station.

Regionally, Spin South West had the largest listenership at 63 per cent.

Today FM recorded the largest share of listeners nationally, at 14.6 per cent, while 16.4 per cent of this grouping listened to any RTÉ radio station.

Regionally, Beat 102-103 had the largest listenership at 39.6 per cent.

RTÉ Radio One recorded the largest share of listeners nationally, at 29.2 per cent, while 38.2 per cent of this grouping listened to any RTÉ radio station.

Regionally, Cork’s 96FM/C103 had the largest listenership at 45.5 per cent.

Reaction

Newstalk reported that it now had 287,000 listeners daily, with Sean Moncrieff’s show up 9,000 to 104,000.

2FM also welcomes today’s figures. In addition to announcing Dan Healy as their new station head, the station said that Breakfast with Hector had increased by 4,000, while Tubridy had dropped by 1,000 to 159,000.

RTÉ Radio One reported that they had seen increases in many of its shows, and remained the only station in Ireland with a weekly reach of one million.
