5 apps worth downloading this week

Featuring a 16-bit puzzler involving a yeti, a reboot of a classic PC game and a handy way to take notes down when you’re away.

EACH WEEK, WE highlight five apps that are worth downloading for your smartphone and tablet. There are a lot of apps released on a daily basis, but not all of them are worth paying attention to.

This week includes a 16-bit puzzler involving a yeti, a reboot of a classic PC game and a handy way to take notes down when you’re away.

Lost Yeti
For: iOS
Cost: €0.99

- Probably the best way to think about Lost Yeti is it’s a cross between Bomberman and Lemmings, if that makes sense.
- The pixelated art style will remind you of aany GBA game you’ve ever played, which can only be a good thing. The 8-bit music adds to that feel.
- The yeti moves on his own, but your job is to ensure he gets to the end in one piece, while collecting a number of treats along the way.
-You have to manipulate the environment by moving ice blocks and avoiding traps and enemies.
- It’s a feelgood game and is perfect if you’re looking for something lighthearted and nostalgic.

- For those of you who are rather narcissistic, you probably like to keep track of who’s following and unfollowing you.
- UnfollowSpy lets you see exactly that on both Twitter and Instagram.
- On top of that, it helps you figure out separate the overactive users from inactive users you follow on Twitter.
- You can also sign in from multiple Twitter and Instagram accounts should you require its services for other reasons.
- On the flip side, you can find out who interacts with you the most through an admirers section, just in case your ego needs a boost.

- A Q&A service that was originally on browser, the app brings every topic you can think off such with more than 110 sites.
- The site (and app) is based entirely upon reputation, Better contributors get greater authority, ensuring that only useful answers are given

Dungeon Keeper
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

- Anyone remember Bullfrog’s Dungeon Keeper for PC? It was one of the best strategy games in the 90s.
- This reboot isn’t exactly the version fans would have been hoping for, but newcomers will probably warm to it.
- For those unfamiliar, you have to build your dungeon, fill it with monsters, traps and gold, and defend it from any hero stupid enough to venture in.
- Because it’s free, it means that in-app purchases play a role in it. You can get by without them thankfully, but the slow speed might hamper the experience.
- For those who can overlook those flaws, you’ll find some enjoyment here.

Swiftkey Note
For: iOS
Cost: Free

- Note taking on your phone can be a tad slow, mainly down to the touchscreen keyboard not allowing for quick typing.
- SwiftKey Note will surprise you at how well it can predict what you’re trying to say.
- The interface for autocorrect or auto-completing words means that your notes will be quite accurate.
- Also, the more you use it, the smarter it will get so you’ll end up switching between typing and tapping words the more you write.
- Tagging notes is simple and you can sync it up to Evernote if you’re a regular user.
