5 apps worth downloading this week

Gloomy filters, random photos and skiing down snowy slopes.

EACH WEEK, WE highlight five apps that are worth downloading for your smartphone and tablet. There are a lot of apps released on a daily basis, but not all of them are worth paying attention to.

This week features gloomy filters, random photos and skiing down snowy slopes.

Gloomlogue
For: iOS, Windows Phone
Cost: Free

- All filter apps tend to be the same (using bright, retro visuals), but this one is a little different.
- Gloomlogue wants to add a gloomy look to some of your photos through a few small adjustments.
- There are 45 different filters which you can add on top of one another, and 15 different modes to help you get the right look.
- On top of that, there are a whole host of editing features allowing you to fine-tune your photos.
- Should you need a free photo editor, this is a nice one to have.

Tipo
For: Android
Cost: Free

- When you’re writing on your smartphone, it can be easy to make mistakes, and even easier to miss them until you hit send.
- Tipo wants to help fix that by alerting you to any typos in your message when they happen.
- It does this by either vibrating or flashing the screen (or both) so you’re not caught out.
- You can upgrade to the premium version which will help you improve your typing and spellings (if you feel it needs work).
- Should you find the autocorrect function for other keyboards to be too limiting.

Bundle
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

- Despite their premise, photo apps tend to be rather basic. Choose a few folders, cycle through photos and choose which ones to save online.
- Bundle tries to brighten things up by using a more visual method to organising photos, highlighted by its bright design and easy to follow interface.
- It doesn’t take too long to organise photos and if you wish, you can share certain folders with your friends and family. For the most part, you can keep your photos private.
- Storing them is done on whatever service you wish, and there’s a backup mode in case your phone meets an unfortunate end.
- For those who take a lot of photos and just need a better way to organise things.

Mistaken Photo
For: Android
Cost: Free

- Here’s a random concept for an app. Taking photos, but never getting to see them ever again.
- Bear with us though as that’s the whole point of Mistaken. Take some photos and if you’re lucky, you’ll get some back.
- After a few shots, you will start to get some photos back from strangers. Some are interesting, some are boring, and a tiny number can be NSFW (although not many).
- Although if you do like a photo that you’ve received, you can share it elsewhere. Your own photos don’t save
- If you’re curious about what photos strangers are taking, but want to put a twist on it.

Skiing Yeti Mountain
For: iOS, Android
Cost: Free

- Yes, it’s another skiing game but while Powder was relaxing, Skiing Yeti Mountain puts more emphasis on fun.
- You control your skier by resting your thumb on the bottom of the screen. Not only are the controls pretty tight, but it’s probably the most comfortable control scheme for a mobile game we’ve seen in a while.
- Levels are broken up like any other mobile puzzle game. Go down a slope, stay on the right side of the flags and make sure you don’t hit any trees.
- Other obstacles are thrown into the equation, but the game is perfect for both quick games and long plays. One of the rare cases where the balance between play and accessibility is perfect.
- It’s free to download (with in-app purchases of course) so what are you waiting for?
